NEHRA Research Conference

The North East Regional Health Authority (NERHA) of the Ministry of Health, will stage its third research conference on Tuesday (July 7), under the theme: “Forging Alliances through Environmental Health Research”, at the Christ Temple Evangelistic Centre, Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
The conference, which starts at 9:00 a.m., will target public health inspectors, nurses, educators and doctors from the three parishes in the region – St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland. They will be joined by their colleagues from other Regional Health Authorities (RHAs), as well as representatives from the Ministry and the University of Technology (UTech).
The conference aims to bring together public health professionals to share their experience, work and best practices in environmental public health, by providing a forum for: presentations and discussions; information and updates on innovations and policies in environmental health; sharing perspectives and research findings on important aspects of this area; as well as updates to academia on innovations in the field that can be translated to the classrooms.
Topics to be covered include: ‘The Prevalence of Overweight and Obesity Among 6-10-year-old Children in the Northeast Health Region’; ‘Inter-sectoral Collaboration and Other Strategies for Improving Rodent Control in St. Ann’; and ‘The Initial Findings of the Ministry of Health’s Study to Estimate the Burden of Food-borne Illness in Jamaica’.
The presenters will include Sub-regional Advisor on Veterinary Public Health, Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute (CFNI), Dr. Lloyd Webb, and Director of Epidemiology and Research and Data Analysis in the Ministry of Health, Hank Williams.
