The Ministry of National Security will be distributing its ‘Let’s All Liv Gud’ activity books in schools across the country during the current school term.

The books, which were designed and printed by the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), form part of the Ministry’s anti-violence initiative ‘Liv Gud’.

They include fun-filled activities, colourful illustrations, and engaging stories promoting peace and kindness.

Speaking with JIS News, State Minister, Hon. Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn, said that the books are intended to help shift the mindset of students as they settle in the new school year.

She said that younger children, particularly those in primary school, are being targeted.

She contended that students at the primary level are the perfect candidates to have the message and principles of non-violence cemented into their experiences at school, which will eventually form core values.

“I think it’s important when we talk about crime prevention that we start with the younger generation and instil values and attitudes in them. This book is the perfect example for that to really teach them right from wrong,” Mrs. Cuthbert-Flynn said.

“We will definitely engage the younger kids… not just in the 35 schools that we’ve been targeting in the Zones of Special Operations (ZOSOs) but to go right across Jamaica to really engage these younger minds,” she pointed out.

Mrs. Cuthbert Flynn said the Ministry will capitalise on the fun activities in the books to engage children and get them excited about embracing the principles of non-violence.

“We want to start doing some activities come October and then going into November, December before they get out of school. We want to use those three months to really get the message out,” she noted.

The activity books are the brainchild of portfolio Minister, Hon. Dr. Horace Chang.

It is anticipated they will be distributed in schools where the Ministry currently operates in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Youth and Ministry of Health and Wellness, under an inter-ministerial framework.
