Mobay’s CIT honours top achievers

Dietician and Motivational Speaker, Rosalee Brown, has encouraged student awardees of the Caribbean Institute of Technology (CIT), Montego Bay to ensure that they strive for excellence and satisfaction in their chosen professions.
“Life is not just about the money or the special degree; it is being excellent at what you do. The secret of achieving mastery in your profession comes when you practice, when you give adequate investment in your chosen talent,” Ms. Brown told the awardees.
She was delivering the main address at the CIT’s third annual awards presentation at their Montego Bay Freeport campus. Eighteen students were awarded for excellence and outstanding achievements, under the theme, “Fanning the Flame of Excellence”.

Some 18 students were awarded for outstanding performances and presented with trophies and scholarships.

Ms. Brown also advised students that practice was not something they do once they were good, but rather something they do in order to become good.
“You have vision and you have passion and talent, but you cannot sit on that; you have to invest in that, you now have to work at your passion and have a single minded purpose to what you do,” she said.
“I also encourage you all not to be too selfish with your knowledge, because as you share, you further develop your skills. This is how you invest in the talent or passion that you have. Focus on your vision and on your passion. Focus on your talent by investing the time in preparation, but don’t let money be your focus,” she insisted.
Managing Director of CIT, Carlene Smith, observed that the ceremony was about recognizing excellence, leadership, service to others, integrity and a sense of character.
“This ceremony is acknowledging the fact that awardees have set lofty goals and have pushed themselves to achieving them,” she said.
She urged the awardees to continue to pursue excellence, set lofty goals, persevere through adversity and, above all, “be sure to leave yourself open to the wonderful, unexpected opportunities that await you”.
Camir Ricketts, who maintained an average of 92 per cent throughout the year, was the top performing student. Others in the top three were, Anishka Shelton and Rayon Reid. They were presented with trophies of excellence and outstanding performances, and scholarships worth $10,000 to $30,000.
