Ministry of Finance Clarifies Wage Freeze Issue

Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, Senator Arthur Williams, has responded to queries from several media houses about talk of a fourth year of wage freeze.

In rejecting the suggestions, Senator Williams emphasized:“There was never any talk of, plan for, nor contemplation of any fourth year of wage freeze”.

Senator Williams says that Mr. Shaw made it clear in yesterday’s (April 19) Standing Finance Committee that the wage freeze time period agreed with the IMF was up to the 2011-2012 financial year. That is, Year 1: 2009-2010, Year 2: 2010-2011 and Year 3: 2011-2012.

“I trust this will put an end to the speculation that is now taking place,” said Senator Williams.
