The Full Story

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security will be embarking on a series of two-day roadshows to raise public awareness about the services of the Labour Department.

These roadshows, which will be held in five parishes, will begin at the Cecil Charlton Park in Mandeville, Manchester, on September 19 and 20. This will be followed up by shows in St. Ann, Kingston, St. James and St. Thomas.

The shows, expected to be highly interactive, will raise awareness about how the public can access the services of the Department.

The announcement was made by Portfolio Minister, Hon. Shahine Robinson, during the Ministry’s first quarterly press briefing at its offices on North Street in Kingston on Tuesday, September 4.

She said jobseekers, workers and employees, as well as union representatives will be engaged on a range of topics, including industrial relations, occupational safety and health, efforts to eliminate child labour, the roles and functions of registered employment agencies, as well as the local and overseas employment programmes.

Mrs. Robinson said the Ministry is collaborating on this initiative with the Jamaica Employers’ Federation and the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions.
