The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) will, this year, continue work on critical infrastructure development projects in the downtown Kingston district.
Areas being targeted include repair or replacement of sewerage infrastructure, water infrastructure, road infrastructure, work on the Port Royal Street Coastal Revetment project, waste management, and affordable housing.
Work is also to continue on the second phase of the Desmond McKenzie Homeless Shelter.
Mayor of Kingston, Senator Councillor Delroy Williams, who made the disclosure while addressing journalists at the monthly meeting of the KSAMC on January 9 at the Council’s offices in downtown Kingston, said these projects are critical to the sustainable development of the City.
“We seek to continue with our vision for the transformation of Kingston. Our vision has been very clear. We have been pursuing that path for the transformation of Kingston and the repositioning of Kingston into a destination/tourism city… all of these projects will impact development within the city space,” he said.
“These projects align to the vision of transformation of the Municipality,” Mayor Williams said.
In addition, work is slated to continue on the Church Street beautification project in downtown Kingston.
The project, which is being funded in partnership with the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), forms part of the ‘Kulture Key’ Project designed to transform the downtown Kingston district.
