JUTC Resumes Express Service

April 8, 2008

The Full Story

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has announced that its express service will resume on 18 bus routes today.
According to Marketing Manager of the JUTC, Lenworth Simms, the move comes as a result of the refurbishing of 30 buses over the last six weeks.
“The availability of these refurbished buses enables the JUTC to return the 30 express buses to the express routes without causing any disruption to the overall service that we are very happy to offer our valued customers,” he said.
He pointed out that the refurbishing programme will be continued with the objective of returning approximately 15 regular buses to service on a monthly basis. “We have an adequate inventory of spare parts and supplies to support the objective,” he told JIS News.
The routes were converted to regular service on Monday, February 11, 2008. Mr. Simms noted that the conversion of the buses to regular service was temporary and although ridership had increased to 68 per cent as a result of the move, it was done to facilitate the company’s refurbishing programme.
“This decision was intended to be a temporary one as the company embarked on a structured programme of refurbishing regular buses that were disabled for various reasons,” he said.
