The Jeffery Town Farmers Association in St. Mary will stage its second annual Breadfruit Festival on Sunday, August 20, which will feature the best of breadfruit production in the parish and highlight meals prepared from the produce.
The St. Mary office of the Social Development Commission is assisting with the planning of the event, which will be staged at the Jeffery Town playing field. Wadsworth Gordon, President of the association, told JIS News that the highlight of the event would be a concert featuring last year’s Rising Stars’ winner, Christopher Martin and Noddy Virtue, who placed second. There will also be a special entertainment package for children.
In addition to the display of breadfruit meals and by products, the festival will feature popular Jamaican cuisine such as curried goat, jerked pork, jerked chicken, ackee and salt fish, goat head soup and mackerel and salt fish run down, among others.
Mr. Gordon appealed to the residents of Jeffery Town and surrounding areas to come support the festival, noting that it would be bigger and better than last year’s event.
