The Full Story

The Ministry of Health is to receive equipment valued at approximately US$13,000 from three Jamaican organisations in the United States, to assist the country in the campaign to prevent and prepare for the Ebola Virus.

The New Jersey-based Help Jamaica Medical Mission (HELPJAMM) will donate four personal protective equipment, four Ebola kits and 10 infrared monitors; and the Jamaican and American Association of Buffalo (JAAAB) and the National Association of Jamaican and Supportive Organizations (NAJASO) will each donate 10 infrared monitors.

These donations resulted from an appeal made by the Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Fenton Ferguson, while addressing HELPJAMM’s 4th Annual Black Tie dinner, at the Hanover Manor in East Hanover, New Jersey, on Saturday, November 1.

The Minister pointed out that the Government is doing everything possible to prepare for a possible outbreak of the Ebola Virus, and the country needs as much support as possible.

Vice President of HELPJAMM, Dr. Robert Clarke, said that based on the serious health risk of Ebola and the appeal made by the Health Minister, his organisation along with NAJASO and JAAAB decided to donate the medical equipment, which should arrive on the island next week.

He said the organisations will maintain dialogue with the Ministry of Health to provide further assistance where needed.
