There are 318 clinics and health centres and 24 hospitals operating within the public health system.
Clinics and Health Centres offer:
- Care for patients with minor emergencies and wounds.
- Dietary management for patients with chronic diseases and provide assessment for follow-up care.
- Fixed operating hours and are free of cost to the public.
Hospitals offer:
- Surgeries and provide care for medical cases that require specialists and consultants.
- No user fees, however, hospitals which are partially funded by the GOJ require patients to pay a registration fee.
- 24-hour short- or long-term care.
Classification of Hospitals
GOJ hospitals are categorised as either being Type A, B or C in accordance with the types of services that they offer, as well as their bed capacity.
In addition, there are six (6) GOJ specialist hospitals that are not classified as Type A, B or C. These are the Victoria Jubilee Hospital, the Bustamante Hospital for Children, Belleview Hospital, the National Chest Hospital, the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre and the Hope Institute.
