The Full Story

Public sector employees, who are designated travelling officers, are set to receive a 22.5 per cent increase in their travelling allowance over the next two years.

Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, made the announcement at on March 21 Jamaica House media briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister.

She said Cabinet approved the increase, which will be effected on April 1 this year, and April 1, 2013.

The Information Minister said the approval came after Cabinet deliberated over a submission, which incorporated technical input from the National Works Agency (NWA), relating to, among other things, the operational cost of maintaining an average motor car.

“It provided details of an analysis of the existing rates, compared with the recommendation by the NWA and the recommendation of the Ministry of Finance and Planning,” Senator Falconer informed.
