The Full Story

Residents of communities in Trelawny, St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland are benefiting from a series of career development seminars being staged by the HEART Trust/NTA.
Manager for the HEART Trust/NTA’s Northern Region, George Coleman, told JIS News that the seminars have been very effective and there has been positive feedback from the attendees.
He explained that the events “are really geared for everybody in the communities, whether the young or the old, who need some kind of advice as to where to go from here. Some of these persons are unemployed and so we try to link them to the opportunities for employment or for training. Some of these persons are in need of some form of career guidance and so we will assist those persons by directing them to the appropriate employment opportunities.”
Mr. Coleman invited persons to come out for the next event, which will be held at the Bamboo Primary and Junior High School in St. Ann on Thursday (March 14) at 5:30 p.m. “We really want to invite everybody to come out and learn more about what HEART Trust has to offer, learn more about the opportunities that are available for employment and for training, learn more about how persons can be empowered to take on challenges and opportunities that are emerging both locally and internationally,” he said.
Persons, who are unable to attend the seminars, could visit the region’s recently opened Career Development Centre, where they will benefit from advice from a career counsellor.
The centre is located at the North Region’s offices at 45 Main Street, St. Ann’s Bay. The office is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays.
“I believe that it is important that we prepare ourselves for these jobs that are coming up at our doorsteps as well as those that are coming up in other countries and there is no better time than now to be prepared for these opportunities,” Mr. Coleman said, appealing to persons to come to the seminars and learn how HEART Trust can help them to achieve their goals.
