The HEART/NSTA Trust has launched a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Ambassador Programme.
The initiative aims to raise the profile of TVET and cultivate a cadre of individuals who will collaborate with HEART/NSTA to showcase its programmes and services and strengthen and advance its vision and mission.
The ambassadors will help prospective students to identify TVET, not just as an alternative to traditional academic subjects but as a viable career path.
Melissa Moses, a graduate of Garmex Academy and successful entrepreneur, has been named the first ambassador.
The launch was held at the HEART/NSTA Trust’s Oxford Road offices in St. Andrew on Thursday (February 29).
HEART/NSTA Senior Director for Standards, Curriculum and Learning Resources Development, Dr. Marcia Rowe Amonde, said the launch marks a significant milestone in the Trust’s commitment to fostering excellence in TVET.
Dr. Rowe Amonde pointed out that TVET plays a pivotal role in shaping the Jamaican society and driving economic development.
“The implementation of the TVET Ambassador Programme represents a significant step towards achieving the objectives for quality TVET. It draws inspiration from successful programmes in academia and sports, and we aim to harness the passion [and] the dedication of individuals like Melissa Moses who share our vision for advancing TVET in Jamaica,” she shared.
Dr. Rowe Amonde said Ms. Moses’ achievements in the fashion industry are a source of immense pride for HEART/NSTA, adding that the Trust is confident that her passion and expertise will inspire countless Jamaicans on their journeys.
“We eagerly anticipate the positive impact she will make as she represents the excellence and innovation that characterises TVET and where we need to take it, now, to the top of the agenda. We are equally excited about the other ambassadors who will officially come on board in short order to help us to spread our messages about TVET and how it can transform lives [and] economies – equipping individuals for work and for life,” she stated.
The TVET Ambassador said she was delighted to be selected, as it will afford her the privilege to encourage youth across Jamaica to consider HEART/NSTA as a training option.
“I am looking forward to working with the team to achieve the objectives of the TVET Ambassador Programme. Thank you for the opportunity,” Ms. Moses said.
