The Government will be undertaking repairs to road and water systems and providing indigent housing in several communities in Westmoreland.
During a tour of the parish on Wednesday (February 23), Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, said that the Stonehenge and New Road communities are among the areas targeted for priority roadworks.
He informed that a road in Lennox Bigwood is also being earmarked for rehabilitation, noting that an estimate of that project has been done.
“These are some of the roads that the Prime Minister has committed to fixing. We are going to be supporting [that] commitment,” he noted.
Minister McKenzie further informed that Rural Water Supply Limited (RWSL) will be revitalising a hillside catchment tank in the Ashton District to provide a reliable supply of potable water to the people of the area.
“Rural Water is here and they have undertaken to do the estimates, and once that is done, I am committing to the residents in that community that we will reconnect the water lines,” he noted.
The Ministry will also be providing housing solutions for indigent persons in the Darliston and Belvedere communities.
“We are going to be tackling [the issues] because the focus of the Government is to deal with rural development,” Mr. McKenzie said.
