GG Issues Proclamation to End State of Public Emergency

The Full Story

A Proclamation revoking the State of Public Emergency and the Emergency Powers Regulations 2007 was issued by Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Professor Kenneth Hall on August 24. The State of Public Emergency was declared by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller on August 19, following the passage of Hurricane Dean. Following is the Proclamation issued on August 24 by the Governor-General.
WHEREAS by Proclamation made on the 19th day of August, 2007 (hereinafter referred to as the Emergency Proclamation) and published in the Gazette on the 19th day of August, 2007, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 26 of the Constitution of Jamaica, I declared the existence of a State of Public Emergency in Jamaica.
AND WHEREAS subsection (8) of section 1 of the Constitution provides that where any power is conferred by the Constitution to make any Proclamation or order or to give any directions, the power shall be construed as including a power exercisable in like manner to amend or revoke any such Proclamation, order or directions:
NOW THEREFORE, I, KENNETH OCTAVIUS HALL, Member of the Order of the Nation, member of the Order of Jamaica, Governor-General of Jamaica, DO HEREBY REVOKE the Emergency Proclamation with effect from this 24th day of August, 2007.
