The Full Story

Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, on Tuesday (July 14), brought his message of ‘I Believe’ to members of the Kiwanis Club of Kingston at their monthly luncheon meeting, at the Hilton Kingston Hotel in New Kingston.
Sir Patrick Allen was conferred with honorary membership of the Club during the meeting. He told the Kiwanians that he hoped his message would be embraced by all Jamaicans and take on real meaning for them.
“Jamaicans are so creative and their work has had such far-reaching impact and benefits but, unfortunately, many have adopted an attitude of abandonment and have allowed their circumstances to determine the outcome of their lives,” he lamented.
Stating that the Kiwanis Club’s motto, ‘We Build’, was compatible with the message of ‘I Believe’, he asked that the Club help him to spread the message.
“Let us work together to convince each citizen, at home and in the Diaspora, that change can come for our island in our time,” he urged the Kiwanians.

Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen receives a plaque signifying his acceptance into the Kiwanis Club of Kingston as an honorary member, from the President, Ralston Nunes, during Tuesday’s (July 14) luncheon meeting at the Hilton Kingston Hotel.

Sir Patrick Allen is the fifth Governor-General to be conferred with honorary membership in the club. He explained that he chose to accept the honour because the Kiwanis build intangible values, such as the strength and power of volunteerism, and have helped to exemplify their importance in national development.
President of the Kiwanis Club of Kingston, Ralston Nunes, said that, under the clubs by-laws, honorary membership can be conferred upon individuals who have performed distinguished public service.
“Each of our honorary members has led exemplary lives, each of our honorary members has achieved at the very highest level of their profession and they have found multiple opportunities to contribute positively to our society,” he said.
As an honorary member of the club, the Governor-General is entitled to all Club privileges except voting and holding office.
