Flooding in St. Mary – ODPEM

The Full Story

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) wishes to advise the public that the stationary front currently affecting the island has produced heavy rains resulting in flooding within the parish of St. Mary. The areas affected include:

-Port Maria

-Oracabessa

-Sections of Junction in the vicinity of Georgia

Emergency response agencies have been alerted and are currently reporting to the areas. Persons in flood prone areas are reminded to:

1. Be ready to evacuate if you live in low-lying or flood-prone areas.

Decide on likely evacuation routes now.

2. Avoid flooded waterways, i.e. fordings, gullies, streams or rivers, either on foot or in vehicles.

The ODPEM will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as events warrant.
