First Falmouth cruise ship call scheduled for January 2011

December 8, 2010

The Full Story

The Falmouth cruise ship pier is expected to receive its first call in January 2011, according to Prime Minister Bruce Golding.
Responding to questions in Parliament yesterday, Mr. Golding confirmed that construction of the new Falmouth Cruise Ship Pier has already been completed and is now ready to receive cruise ships. He added that ancillary works including the terminal building are expected to be completed by April of next year. Temporary facilities for processing cruise ship passengers will be provided in the interim.
On the question of the status of the Ocho Rios cruise ship pier, Mr. Golding said negotiations are being conducted with a major cruise line for the expansion and re-development of the pier.
The project entails the dredging of a section of the Ocho Rios Harbour to create an additional 3-acres of land space. This he said would facilitate the construction of a new terminal building and finger pier. The proposed works will allow for the undisrupted use of the existing pier by cruise ships while the expansion is being carried out, the Prime Minister said.
