Expo to Highlight Culture and Entrepreneurship of Caribbean People

The economic contribution, entrepreneurial strength and the colourful culture of the Caribbean people, will be highlighted at the second annual Caribbean Business Exposition and Symposium, to be held at the Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) in the United States on Thursday, October 6.
Jamaican Lowell Hawthorne, President and Chief Executive Officer of Golden Krust Corporation, will deliver the keynote address at the event, which will be held under the theme: ‘The Caribbean – Not Just Sea and Sand.’
Mr. Hawthorne, whose Golden Krust brand of Jamaican and Caribbean cuisine opened its 100th outlet in New York in August, will share his perspectives on entrepreneurial success and challenges during the luncheon session.
The Caribbean Business Expo is a collaboration of state, private sector and community concerns and highlights the growing influence of the Caribbean region in local and international affairs.
“This year’s programme is designed to highlight the domestic and international contributions of Caribbean people,” said Harland Henry, event coordinator and Director of Community Outreach in the Connecticut Office of the Secretary of State.
“Our school is very proud of the contributions and achievements of the Caribbean student body and staff,” said Chris Galligan, Dean of the School of Business at CCSU.
Other aspects of the event will feature a session on Opportunities for Civic and Community Involvement by Claudette Spence, a Professor at St. John’s University in New York; Disaster Preparedness by the Red Cross; the Caribbean Market Potential for Trade and Tourism as well as a session on Caribbean Music and Culture, to be moderated by Juan Castillo, Programme Director at WYBC FM Radio.
The symposium is expected to draw on the large Caribbean student population at CCSU, which is one of the main event partners. Other event sponsors are; Connecticut Office of the Secretary of State, the West Indian Foundation; Caribbean Tourism Organization; World Affairs Council and Radio Station WYBC-FM.
