Education Ministry Hosts Zikv Sensitisation Sessions

  • All primary schools are urged to select two teachers of Health and Family Life Education (HFLE) to attend the sessions and two HFLE teachers and a school nurse from secondary schools.
  • ZIKV has not been detected in Jamaica to date. Symptoms of the virus include fever, muscle and joint pain, headache, nausea, eyeball pain, inflammation of the eye, vomiting, diarrhoea or abdominal pain, weakness, swelling of the lower limbs and rash consisting of small bumps. Symptoms last approximately four to seven days.

The Ministry of Education will be hosting a series of Zika Virus (ZIKV) sensitisation sessions across its regional offices from January 12 to 18.

A bulletin issued by the Ministry today (Jan. 11), said that the sensitisation meetings form part of initiatives being undertaken by the Government to ensure greater awareness of ZIKV.

All primary schools are urged to select two teachers of Health and Family Life Education (HFLE) to attend the sessions and two HFLE teachers and a school nurse from secondary schools.
