Students and teachers at Duckenfield Primary School in St. Thomas will have improved access to potable water come September.

Courts Ready Cash donated a 1,000-gallon water tank to the institution on Thursday (July 27), to mitigate water supply issues being faced by the school amid worsening drought conditions.

Acting Senior Education Officer for Region 2, Lebert Drysdale, who delivered greetings on behalf of the Minister of Education and Youth, Hon. Fayval Williams, highlighted that access to water has an impact on advancing good educational outcomes.

“These water tanks will enhance the storage capacity of our schools and, more importantly, reduce the number of days schools are closed because of the unavailability of water,” Mr. Drysdale said.

Vice Principal of the institution, Stafford Stewart, expressed his appreciation for the donation.

“This water tank will make a significant improvement to the water storage capacity of the institution, ” Mr. Stewart said.

In her remarks, Courts Ready Cash Brand Manager, Suzanne Campbell, said the entity recognised the need for access to potable water in communities severely impacted by drought conditions.

As such, Courts Ready Cash has commenced the donation of 10 polyethylene water tanks valued at approximately $1 million to select primary and secondary schools in the hardest-hit parishes of Clarendon, St. Thomas, Portland, St. Mary and Westmoreland.

“Courts Ready Cash remains a dedicated partner in the lives of Jamaicans, with our influence far exceeding financial benefits. Through initiatives like this and others, we actively enrich our communities, our people, our children, our country,” Mrs. Campbell said.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for St. Thomas Eastern, Dr. Michelle Charles, commended Courts Ready Cash for embarking on a “noble initiative”.

“These water tanks will act as lifelines, providing a crucial supply of water to families, schools and communities. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude for their philanthropic efforts and unwavering commitment to the well-being of our communities,” Dr. Charles said.
