The Full Story

Information Minister Senator Sandrea Falconer has expressed deep sadness at the passing of veteran journalist and parliamentary reporter Mr. David Ebanks.

Expressing condolence on behalf of the Government, Senator Falconer said the passing of David Ebanks ends an era of outstanding work and selfless contribution by one of the nation’s finest media practitioners.

“His was an unmistakable voice on radio for more than 50 years providing excellent coverage of news, current affairs and scores of national events – from Official Visits by world leaders to State Funerals for former Prime Ministers.

Affable in style and disciplined in demeanour, David Ebanks was a man who absorbed the pressures of working in a tough media environment without murmur and with absolute calm. It was difficult to disturb him. His long and highly respected coverage of Parliament made him a foremost authority with an intimate knowledge of the system and generations of parliamentarians.

One of David’s enduring qualities was a willingness to share his enormous talent and vast experience with the younger members of the profession and many who practice the craft today benefited tremendously from his guidance and mentorship. He was indeed one of our finest reporters and an excellent journalist.

On behalf of the Government, I express sincere condolence to his widow Cynthia, daughters Dawn and Marie, other family members and the many colleagues in the media whose lives he touched. He will surely and sadly be missed.”
