The Full Story

The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) has extended the deadline for the submission of entries to its ‘Every Child Deserves Protection’ jingle competition to Friday, June 15.

The original deadline for the submission of entries was June 8. The competition, which was launched in May (Child Month), is aimed at ensuring that there is a strong and sustained campaign across Jamaica that speaks to child protection.

Speaking to JIS News, Communications Manager at the CPFSA, Rochelle Dixon, said the agency is taking a proactive approach to child protection.

“We want to engage every Jamaican to be a part of this call to action,” Miss Dixon said, adding that the decision to extend the deadline is to ensure that as many persons as possible will get an opportunity to be part of this call to action.

The competition is open to Jamaicans 14 years and older. Entrants are required to record a 90-second jingle telling how people can protect Jamaica’s children from negative situations, such as child abuse, child abandonment, child neglect, human trafficking and bullying. The jingle must be original and the lyrics suitable for airplay.

Miss Dixon is encouraging persons to call the CPFSA, where they will be provided with an instructional package, which will give ideas of some themes to focus on, information on the CPFSA, and areas of focus for the agency.

After recording the jingle, persons may email their audio files to: prunit@childprotection.gov.jm.

Entrants will vie for prizes to include a weekend for two, a 16-megabyte Samsung Galaxy 9.7-inch tablet, cash prizes and gift baskets. The winner will also get the opportunity to expand the jingle into song in a recording studio. This song will then become the CPFSA’s official Child Protection song, which will be played on radio stations.
For further information, persons may contact the CPFSA at 876-967-5905 or 876-967-1614.
