The Full Story
Hundreds of students of Cornwall College, in St. James, are to benefit from a breakfast programme, established by the local and Canadian chapters of the institution’s Alumni Association, in collaboration with Scarlett House Catering, a leading catering business in Canada.
The breakfast initiative, which is aimed at assisting students whose parents are financially challenged, and who are habitually late and inconsistent in attendance, was officially launched at the school on January 27.
Principal of Cornwall College, Mrs. Vinette Virgo, commended the Alumni Association for the partnership formed with Scarlett House Catering “to make this essential initiative possible.”
“This is indeed a milestone in the history of this noble institution. We are indebted to men and women who have conceptualized and planned this programme, which has far-reaching benefits. We hope to see an improvement in punctuality, attendance and academic performance,” Mrs. Virgo said.
Delivering a message from the Ministry of Education, Regional Director of Region 4, Dr. Michele Pinnock, commended the conceptualizers of the breakfast project, noting that the institution should see progress as a result of this move.
For his part, initiator of the breakfast project, Charles Gordon, said he is pleased to be a part of the programme that will benefit so many students in their educational growth and development.
He pointed out that the idea for a more sustained programme came up during discussions in the Canadian chapter Executive and that was when the culinary project was born.
