December 7, 2004

The Full Story

Jamaica’s Consul General to New York, Dr. Basil K. Bryan, was among a distinguished group of six individuals and businesses honoured for outstanding community service by the Children Of Jamaica Outreach (COJO) Incorporated, at the organisation’s 10th anniversary charity gala held on December 4 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in New York.
Air Jamaica Limited, Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), TransContinental Express Shippers, Dennis Shipping Company and Doreen Willaum of British Airways, NY, were the other honourees.
The charity gala was held under the patronage of Dr. Bryan. Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States (OAS), Professor Gordon Shirley was the guest of honour.
Founder/President of COJO and chair of the charity gala, Gary Williams, noted that the honorees “have given unselfishly towards the realisation of the organisation’s mission and goals from day one and that without them, none of this would have been possible”.
Among the attendees were: Gaile Moaney of Ruder Finn; Tony King of JTB; Richard Lue of Air Jamaica; Robert DeSouza of TransContinental Express Shippers; Dennis Hawthorne of Dennis Shipping Company and Andrew Rowe of American Airlines.
The organisation’s outreach mission has benefited the Marigold Childcare Centre, Musgrave Home for Girls, Glenhope Place of Safety, Alpha Boys School & Vocational Training Centre in Jamaica and the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), Queens and Leaf of Life Fund, New York.
