The Full Story

The Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) is inviting members of the public to participate in its beach cleanup activity on International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day on Saturday, September 16.

The JCSA, through its Brown’s Town Chapter, will be partnering with the St. Ann Hi-Tech Farmers Group for a fifth year to organise the cleaning of three beaches in the Discovery Bay area – Red Cross Peach Beach, Scenic View Beach and Fisherman’s Beach.

Speaking at a JIS Think Tank on Friday (September 8), JCSA President, Techa Clarke-Griffiths, explained that the activity was part of the entity’s corporate social responsibility.

She indicated that the JCSA has invested heavily over the past five years in the initiative, and the Association continues to look at widening the scope of its community outreach activities.

“We don’t just focus on wage and salary negotiations and industrial relations matters. We also look at how we can contribute to community development and expand our reach in various parishes,” she noted.

“We are looking forward to the participation of members and non-members alike, particularly in the area, to support the initiative.” she added.

For his part, JCSA Second Vice President, Kelvin Thomas, said that the cleanup exercise is an opportunity for the Brown’s Town Chapter to connect with its members by coalescing around the social outreach project.

Mr. Thomas, who is also the Zonal Chairman for the JCSA’s Northeast Region said activities are expected to take place between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and invited members from the other regions to “participate in what promises to be a very productive day”.

The Zonal Chairman thanked the sponsors – Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica Resort; Kezzy DC Enterprise; Minott Chemicals; Icon Importers & Distributors; Jamaica Environment Trust; St. Ann Hi-Tech Farmer’s Group; Running Man Products Limited; Sweet Runnings Jamaica and NEPM Waste Management Ltd.

Participating entities include Ministry of Education and Youth Region Three, Brown’s Town Community College, Discovery Bay High School, Minard Hill 4-H Club, Thicketts Farmers Group, Discovery Bay Football Club, St. Ann’s Bay Red Cross, JABEX Global, Discovery Bay Senior Citizens Association, Richmond Housing Association, Discovery Bay Fish Sanctuary and the Discovery Bay and Brown’s Town Community Development Committees.
