The Full Story

Cabinet has approved the programme and budget associated with the official visit to Jamaica of Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency, Xi Jinping, who will be in the island from February 11 to February 14.
This is at the behest of Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, said Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Olivia Grange at the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, this morning (Feb. 4).
She noted that the visit of His Excellency, Xi Jinping, will be the first by a Chinese Vice President since 2005, when His Excellency Zen Quinghong came to the island for the China-Caribbean Economic Trade Forum.
“The visit augurs well for the further deepening and enhancing of Jamaica-China relations. Currently, a vibrant mutually beneficial bilateral programme of cooperation exists between both countries,” Miss Grange noted.
Cabinet also approved the appointment of three representatives of non-governmental organisations to the Board of the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica (EFJ).
The appointments include: Legal Director, Jamaica Environment Trust, Danielle Andrade; Executive Director, Hope for Children Development Company, Richard Troupe; and Director of the Centre for Marine Sciences at the University of the West Indies, Dale Webber. The EFJ falls under the Office of the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Cabinet also approved changes to the Board of Directors of the Port Royal Brotherhood for a period of two years. “Subsequent to the appointment of the Board, it was discovered that the representatives of the Brotherhood were not nominated in accordance with the provisions of the Port Royal Brotherhood Act, hence the need for the amendments,” the Information Minister told journalists.
The revised Board comprises Lieutenant Commander Evon Clarke, Clarence Cook, and Lorraine Dobson.
