The Full Story

Students and teachers at the Discovery Bay Basic School in St. Ann should be feeling safer now, as a chain link fence has been erected at the school by the St. Ann Jamaica Bauxite Partners (SAJBP).
Public and Community Relations Officer at SAJBP, Winston Watson, told JIS News that the company was more than happy to assist the school.
“As a company, we are committed to the implementation of projects that nurture and protect members of the wider community in which we operate and that is why we are happy to have funded this very worthwhile effort,” Mr. Watson said.
With this new addition at the school, he expressed the hope that it would help to create a better and secure environment not only for the students and the teaching staff, but also for all users of the institution.
“We do not want the schools in our areas to become the subject of vandalism or for our students to become victims of unscrupulous persons. So we are ensuring that we put in place the necessary infrastructure to make their environment as safe as possible,” he said.
Meanwhile, Principal of the school, Arlene Mills lauded the bauxite company for its prompt response in dealing with the request for assistance. “This is one very fine example of good corporate citizenship and I know that our children, parents, and teachers will all benefit and be more secure as a result of this excellent gesture,” she said.
