Atlanta Group Stages Annual Health Mission to Montego Bay Next Month

The Atlanta-Montego Bay Sister City Foundation will stage its 17th annual health mission to Montego Bay from October 4 to 7.
Chairman of the Atlanta-Montego Bay Sister City Health Mission, Vin Martin, told JIS News that more than 40,000 patients in St. James and neighbouring parishes have been served over the years, with approximately $38 million in medical supplies donated.
Mr. Martin, who is also Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in Atlanta, informed that the medical team comprised some of the finest physicians, nurses and volunteers.
Atlanta’s Mayor, Kasim Reed, commended the Foundation for its invaluable work to assist the less fortunate and strengthen ties between the cities.
“Each year, the health mission team comes together and gives selflessly to addressing the health care needs of the residents of Montego Bay, and as Mayor of Atlanta, I want to applaud you for helping the less fortunate in Montego Bay,” she said.
The yearly health mission is undertaken in association with the St. James Parish Council, and is facilitated by the St. James Health Department. It is one of the major events staged to coincide with annual commemoration of Montego Bay achieving city status in October 1980.
On Saturday September 18), the Foundation will stage its annual banquet and dance at the Atlanta Marriott Century Hotel to raise funds for the health mission. The event, which gets underway at 7:30 p.m., is being sponsored by the Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.
The Atlanta-Montego Bay Sister Cities Foundation is the oldest Caribbean organisation in Atlanta, having been established in 1972 by reciprocal agreements between the mayors of Atlanta and Montego Bay.
It is one of 18 members of the Atlanta Sister Cities Commission of which Mayor Reed is Honorary Chairperson.
