Arts Researchers Invited to Apply for Bridget Jones Travel Award

Arts researchers and practitioners in Jamaican and the wider Caribbean are being invited to submit applications for the Bridget Jones Travel Award, which is offered by the Centre for Caribbean Studies in the United Kingdom.
A release from the Centre, which is based at the University of Warwick, said that the deadline for applications is January 9, 2009. The work of the winner of the award will be presented at the annual conference of the Society for Caribbean Studies, which will be held at the Wilberforce Institute for the Study of Slavery and Emancipation (WISE), University of Hull, from July 1-3 2009.
Musicologist and founder for the Jamaica Folk Singers, Dr. Olive Lewin and Writer Kei Miller, are past recipients of the award, which is open to arts practitioners or researchers at the postgraduate, postdoctoral or professional levels, living or working in the Anglophone, Hispanic, Francophone or Dutch-speaking Caribbean.
Submissions are also welcome from persons with no institutional affiliation. Visual artists, performers and creative writers are being invited to submit proposals in addition to the more usual scholarly research papers.
