Agriculture And Community Tourism Enterprises To Receive Support

By: , February 25, 2021

The Full Story

Agriculture and community tourism enterprises are to benefit from the provision of seedling and chemicals, as well as capacity building, under the Government’s Rural Economic Development Initiative II.

An allotment of $414.5 million has been made in the 2021/22 Estimates of Expenditure for these and other exigencies under the project, which seeks to enhance access to markets and strengthen climate-resilient approaches for targeted beneficiaries (rural enterprises).

The money will also be used to rehabilitate the St. Mary Multipurpose Co-operative Cold Storage and Post Harvest Facility; rehabilitate a honey-bottling facility; and install a photovoltaic system at New Forrest.

The project is being implemented by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) with funding from the Government of Jamaica and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).

It is slated to run from February 2020 to December 2025.
