No School Flags at Transport Centre During ‘Champs’
April 2, 2009The Full Story
The management of the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre has banned the public display or waving of school flags in the facility, during this weekend’s Boys’ and Girls’ Championships at the National Stadium, in the interest of the safety and comfort of commuters using the facility.
The Ministry of Transport and Works has sanctioned the decision, which it regards as regrettable, but has been deemed necessary. This is in view of a developing trend, where the friendly rivalry, which once existed among the schools has become violent in some cases. The displaying and waving of flags among students in the centre has been cited as a source of this violence.
The security forces and contracted security guards at the Centre will be vigilant in enforcing this ban, and the administrations of the relevant schools have been so advised.
