Members of the public are being invited to attend a two-day National Conference on Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, which will be held from September 30 to October 1 at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Regional Headquarters, Mona, St. Andrew.
Under the theme: ‘Protecting Identity, Banking and Citizen Information Networks’, the event is being hosted by the Mona ICT Policy Centre at the Mona School of Business in collaboration with the Washington DC-based Internet Society(ISoc), and local law firm, Henlin Gibson Henlin.
Providing details at a Jamaica Information Service (JIS) Think Tank on Wednesday, September 25, Director of the Mona ICT Policy Centre, Professor Hopeton Dunn, informed that the conference will provide information on how persons can keep their computer networks secure from hackers and scammers, and how to take measures to detect and prosecute those “who are involved in the criminal enterprise of trying to break into people’s networks.”
He informed that more than 20 speakers are expected to address sessions over the two days in the areas of security, banking, government, and academia.
They include: Minister of National Security, Hon. Peter Bunting; Minster of State in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Hon. Julian Robinson; Group Managing Director, National Commercial Bank (NCB), Patrick Hylton; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Carl Williams; Senior Development Manager, Regional Latin America and Caribbean Bureau, ISoc,Christian O’Flaherty; and Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Cyber Security Centre, James Bynoe, among others.
The sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m. each day and Professor Dunn informed that while there is no cost to attend the conference; persons must register through the Mona School of Business website. “Spaces are limited, so register now,” he urged.
