The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) will host its 20th annual National Quality Awards (NQA) Ceremony and Banquet on Thursday, January 30, at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.
Since its inception in 2004, the NQA Programme has stood as Jamaica’s premier quality system-based awards initiative, celebrating exceptional achievements in quality management systems across the manufacturing, service, agricultural and small business sectors.
This milestone event will not just commemorate two decades of “fostering excellence in quality systems that enhance productivity, competitiveness and sustainable development across industries but also will serve as a continuous inspiration for organisations to embrace excellence and contribute to Jamaica’s growth,” said Executive Director of the BSJ, Dr. Velton Gooden, in an interview with JIS News.
This year’s awards will once again highlight excellence across five key areas –Organisational Focus, Customer Focus, Human Resource Focus, Process Management and Business Results.
To be eligible for the awards, participating organisations will undergo a comprehensive assessment process, beginning with the submission of a detailed self-assessment form and culminating in an intensive audit conducted by BSJ-contracted auditors.
The results of this rigorous evaluation will determine the awardees, reaffirming Jamaica’s commitment to fostering quality standards that drive innovation and global competitiveness.
The 2025 awardees will join the ranks of previous honourees, including Nestlé Jamaica and Happy Ice, which earned top spots in the Manufacturing and Small Business categories, respectively, during the programme’s inaugural year.
In 2005, the Service sector was introduced, with the Round Hill Hotel earning the prestigious accolade.
The Agricultural sector was later added during the 2015/2016 renewal of the Programme.
This year’s event will feature remarks from the Minister of Industry, Investment, and Commerce, Senator the Hon. Aubyn Hill, as well as key leaders from the BSJ.
As Jamaica celebrates 20 years of the National Quality Awards, the BSJ continues to champion quality management as an essential driver of economic growth, sustainable development, and global competitiveness.
The BSJ is the national standards body committed to promoting the development of standards, quality assurance, and consumer protection.
By fostering the implementation of internationally recognised standards, the BSJ helps to enhance the competitiveness of Jamaican products and services globally.
