Clients of the Bellevue Hospital in Kingston are set to benefit from a recent handover of equipment by the Bounty Foundation.
The donation of two air-conditioning units, five wheelchairs, and nine ambulatory assistive devices (walkers) were received from recording artiste Rodney “Bounty Killer” Pryce and his Manager, Paul “Bankey” Giscombe by Bellevue Hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Suzette Buchanan, on September 26.
Ms. Buchanan said that the donation “not only marks a significant enhancement in Bellevue’s facilities, but also highlights the ongoing commitment of the Bounty Foundation to mental health advocacy and community upliftment”.
The air-conditioning units will be used in the institution’s recently renovated family room, which is designed to create a comfortable and supportive environment for families visiting loved ones receiving care at Bellevue Hospital, marking a significant step in enhancing the overall patient experience.
Ms. Buchanan said that the mental health facility was proud of the groundbreaking partnership with the Bounty Foundation in the establishment of its first dedicated family room, an initiative aimed at enhancing patient care and fostering stronger connections between patients and their loved ones.
She pointed out that the renovation of the family room began in May 2024, funded initially by a generous contribution of $500,000 from Jamaican footballer Leon Bailey.
For his part, Mr. Pryce said that he was moved by a recent television feature that highlighted a donation of roofing materials to the institution by some young men, following Hurricane Beryl, showcasing the impact of community support.
Inspired by their generosity and the critical role of family involvement in mental health recovery, Mr. Pryce decided to take a step to further support the work of the hospital through his Foundation.
In the meantime, the CEO expressed deep gratitude for the items on behalf of the hospital.
“These contributions will significantly boost Bellevue’s ability to provide comprehensive care and mobility support, empowering patients to navigate their environment with greater ease and independence,” she said.
Ms. Buchanan added that the facility looks forward to continued partnerships that support the well-being and recovery of its patients.
