The retail company, TotalEnergies Marketing Jamaica, has been a pillar in the energy sector, consistently delivering high quality products and services, says Minister of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport, Hon. Daryl Vaz.

In a speech delivered by Chief Technical Director in the Ministry, Brian Richardson, at the company’s 20th Anniversary Gala, held recently at the AC Mariott Hotel, in New Kingston, Mr. Vaz lauded the company for its 20 years of operation in Jamaica.

He said their commitment to innovation, safety and sustainability has set a standard in the industry, and over the past two decades they have demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and a “strong partnership with the Jamaican community”.

“The Government recognises your contributions to our economy and the lives of many Jamaicans through job creation and corporate social responsibility initiatives,” the Minister said.

He pointed out that Jamaica’s energy landscape is at a transformative juncture, and the Administration is committed to diversifying the country’s energy mix and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.

Mr. Vaz said this is reflected in the National Energy Policy, which aims to ensure that Jamaica has a secure, sustainable and affordable energy supply.

The focus on increasing the share of renewables, enhancing energy efficiency, and improving the overall resilience of the energy infrastructure are ambitious goals, yet achievable, the Minister said, underscoring that by 2030, “we aim to have renewables contribute 50 per cent of our energy supply”.

“This goal is not just a target, it is a necessity for reducing our carbon footprint, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and fostering sustainable economic growth,” he said.

The Minister noted that the recent surge in oil prices has not only impacted electricity costs in Jamaica but has also had a ripple effect globally, adding that the era of cheap oil is “behind us” and it is unlikely to return in the short to medium term.

“As we look towards the future, the role of companies like TotalEnergies becomes even more crucial. The global energy landscape is rapidly evolving, with advancements in technology and a growing emphasis on sustainability, whilst being customer centric. The Ministry encourages TotalEnergies to continue to be at the forefront of these changes, particularly in the areas of renewable energy, digitalisation, and innovation,” Mr. Vaz said.
