World Press Freedom Day 2024
UNESCO recognises May 3 as World Press Freedom Day.  The current World Press Day theme is: ‘A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis’ focuses on the importance of journalism and freedom of expression in the context of the current global environmental crisis.
UNESCO and the Government of Chile will host the 31st World Press Freedom Day Conference in Santiago on May 2 – 4.
The UN General Assembly declared World Press Day in December 1993 but UNESCO has been the lead organization in organizing and promoting the event ever since.
Jamaica’s ranking on the RSF Index has significantly improved, moving up 8 places to 24th from 32nd last year.
Jamaica is #1 in Caribbean on the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) World Freedom Press Index.
