Titles to Be Issued for Land Along Pipeline of NIC in St. Elizabeth

One thousand certificates of title are to be issued for land along the route of the National Irrigation Commission’s (NIC’s) pipeline in St. Elizabeth, over a one-year period.
This is the result of an agreement between the National Land Agency (NLA) and the NIC.
The project aims to register all parcels of land falling along the route for the new NIC pipeline via the NLA’s Systematic Land Registration process.
It will also facilitate the registration of any necessary ‘Grants of Easement’ over such lands, in favour of the NIC.
Senior Director of the NLA’s Adjudication Services Division, Shalise Porteous, told JIS News that both entities recently signed a contract and “preparatory work is now in place to facilitate the commencement”.
The project is one of the major objectives of the NLA for the 2023/2024 financial year.
“We’re looking forward to the future of the NIC project and, of course, funding to expand systematic [land registration] elsewhere,” Ms. Porteous said.
The project will be undertaken in conjunction with the NLA’s current contract with Geoland Titles Limited to issue 12,000 certificates of title by May 2024.
“It has truly been a team effort and just being creative and pivoting where necessary, using scarce resources to facilitate the success of the project,” Ms. Porteous said.
