Gov’t Remains Committed to Education Sector

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller says the government remains committed to ensuring that education and training form a major part of Jamaica’s development agenda, as the nation pushes for national progress.

Speaking at the launch of the 2015/16 school year at the Fidel Castro Campus of the Anchovy High School in Montpelier, St. James on September 11, Mrs. Simpson Miller said the commitment can be seen in the significant investments the government continue to make in the sector.

This, she said included the construction and equipping of schools, training of teachers and principals and the provision of assistance with books and meals at some levels of the education system.

“As we start another school year, my administration remains committed to education and training as a driving force for economic growth, the social advancement of our people and the foundation of national progress,” Mrs. Simpson Miller stated.

She also thanked all stakeholders for the role they have played in ensuring that the nation’s children are educated.

“I want to say to the students, this school is yours, take care of it. I commend those parents and guardians who are doing their best and making great sacrifices to ensuring that their children get a good education. I thank the teachers and school administrators who work tirelessly to keep our education system strong and our people educated,” Mrs. Simpson Miller said.
