40 Educators to Receive PM’s Medals of Appreciation

Prime Minister Bruce Golding will confer the Prime Minister’s medal of appreciation for services to Education on 40 teachers at a ceremony on Monday, May 10 at Jamaica House.
The annual event allows the government to recognize persons who have made an outstanding contribution in the field of education as administrators, teachers or innovators. The Minister of Education, Andrew Holness and Chief Education Officer, Grace McLean will also address the awardees.
St. Andrew leads as the parish with eight awardees followed by Kingston and Manchester, which have five awardees each. Six of the educators have served more than 40 years in the sector. Leford McDonald of Claremont St. Ann and Enid Robotham of Merl Grove High School and also the International University of the Caribbean (IUC) have each served education for more than 50 years. Well known educators, Dahlia Repole of Excelsior Community College and the Rev. Dr. Richmond Nelson of the IUC are on the Prime Minister’s 2010 list.
Their Excellencies, the Governor General Sir Patrick and Lady Allen will attend and the Jamaica Constabulary Force band will provide fanfare and background music. Each teacher will personally receive an engraved medal from the Prime Minister.
