3,500 Children Feted by Police in Clarendon

The Clarendon police and members of the parish’s Crime Prevention Committee feted more than 3,500 children at 11 police stations, recently.
The treat was funded by local business leaders and persons from the parish who are living overseas. Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) prepared the meals and interacted with children and parents in attendance.
Andrew Cox, a member of the Crime Prevention Committee, said it was pleasing for him to see the police and citizens dining together. “It was a moment of fellowship, and we must continue working to achieve better relations with the police in order to conquer crime and promote better values and attitudes for the young ones,” he told JIS News. The police community relations officer in the parish, Sergeant Sandra Webb-Spence, said the effort would go a far way in fostering good rapport between the police and residents within the division.
“We want children to see the police as friends and not just as arresters and other images portrayed on television, and we will continue to strive in this regard,” she said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the parish Crime Prevention Committee, William Shagoury called on fellow business operators in the parish to give added support to the group’s efforts.
“The people from all walks of life are on the committee, and they have never failed to play their role in building the parish. But, if we as business people allow crime and violence to take charge, we will have nowhere to run a business. Building Clarendon is not for me and a few others; all of us must get involved,” he emphasized.
