$35 Million to Continue Work on Flood Lights at Sabina Park

A sum of $35 million has been provided in the 2015/16 Budget for the continued installation of flood lights and other related works at Sabina Park.

The project seeks to improve Jamaica’s attraction as a destination for sports tourism and towards the continued development of cricket in Jamaica, in particular at the youth and professional levels.

It is being implemented by the Office of the Prime Minister, through funding from the Government of India.

Up to December, 2014 under the project, contracts were awarded and civil engineering work completed; electrical conduits were installed with wiring and fixtures; generators and lighting control system have been installed; a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been completed and signed by all parties; and lights were installed and tested.

For the 2015/16 period, it is anticipated that a final contract payment of $17.75 million will be made. Additionally, an outstanding payment of $6.68 million is also to be made to conduct practice lighting.

Another $10.23 million will go towards consultancy and other fees, while $557,000 will be spent on a commemorative plaque.

Originally slated to run from April, 2014 to July, 2014, the project has been extended to October, 2015.
