An estimated $195 million will be used to complete the establishment of a United Nations (UN) House in the upcoming fiscal year.
The sum is contained in the 2024/25 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.
The Government-funded project began in 2017 and is scheduled to end in March 2025.
It involves the renovation of Block 11 at 14-16 Port Royal Street, Kingston, for use as the UN Offices.
Up to December 2023, physical achievements of the project included the completion of demolition work on first, third and fourth floors; completion of electrical works on the fourth floor; completion of interior works on the first, third, and fourth floors; installation of an air-conditioning unit on the fourth floor; and the tendering of procurement for a contractor to construct a perimeter wall.
For 2024/25, anticipated physical targets of the project include the construction of perimeter fencing and parking spaces; the procurement of the services of a contractor to erect perimeter security fencing and construct parking spaces; the procurement of a Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager; and repairing the ceiling bed, painting, and tiling of the ground floor.
The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation through the National Land Agency.
