Mike Henry to Tour Projects in St. James, Wednesday-Friday

Minister of Transport and Works, Hon. Mike Henry, will be based in Montego Bay between Wednesday and Friday of next week, overseeing several new developments facilitated by his Ministry.
Mr. Henry will visit Bogue Road at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, after which he will travel with Prime Minister Bruce Golding to the Falmouth Cruise Ship Pier in Trelawny for a tour of the project, at about 11:00 a.m.
On Thursday, Mr. Henry will tour several areas of St. James, while on Friday he will be looking at the public transportation system in Montego Bay, including plans for the resumption of a rail service and the operations of the Montego Bay Metro, which manages the operations of a dedicated school bus service in Montego Bay.
He will also visit a number of bridges which have been repaired by the National Works Agency (NWA).
“I had made certain promises to the people of Montego Bay and I am going back to ensure that they are either fulfilled or are being fulfilled, as well as to discuss what else can be done for the city,” Mr. Henry told JIS News on Friday.
The Bogue Road Rehabilitation Project in the Ministry of Transport and Works received $500 million in the 2010/11 fiscal year, to support the North Coast Highway Improvement Project, through the upgrading of the Bogue Road to reduce traffic congestion and improve the level of safety on that corridor.
The Government of Jamaica will be bearing $300 million of the project cost, with the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) providing the remainder.
The Port Authority of Jamaica is proceeding with the construction and development of the Falmouth Cruise Ship Terminal in Trelawny, having secured funding through a Government Guarantee loan of US$121.65 million, approved by the House of Representatives in 2009.
When the cruise ship terminal is completed, it will be able to accommodate RCCL and Genesis class of vessels, which represent the largest cruise ships in the world.
