March 9, 2010

The Full Story

Minister of Health, Hon. Rudyard Spencer, is to meet with representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, to discuss concerns expressed by the Joint Health Sector Group at a meeting with him on Tuesday (March 9).
Mr. Spencer said that it was important that the Ministry of Health and the groups in the health sector are on the same page.
“We, therefore, have to have these discussions with a view to understanding each other and charting a way forward. We have a common objective to improve the quality of health care and maximize the benefits to the Jamaican people,” he told the meeting.
The group, comprising members of the Medical Association of Jamaica, Jamaica Medical Doctors Association, Pharmaceutical Society of Jamaica, Association of Government Medical Consultants, Association of Public Dental Surgeons and the Jamaica Veterinary Medical Association expressed concern about various aspects of a reclassification report affecting the reclassification of registered nurses represented by the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ).
Minister Spencer assured the participants that another meeting will be scheduled with them, after the matter is discussed with his counterparts from the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service.
“This is an inclusive process and so we encourage all the groups to express any concerns they may have so that, at the end of the day, we can have a good product that will be beneficial to all of us,” Minister Spencer said.
