Work Progressing Smoothly on Santa Cruz Water Supply System

Improvement works on Phase 1B of the Santa Cruz Water Supply System, which will see some 4.4 kilometres of pipeline laid from the town of Santa Cruz to Lovely Point in the parish of St. Elizabeth, is moving apace and should be completed on scheduled in December.

On completion, the project is expected to facilitate housing developments across that section of the parish and provide improved water supply service for an additional 23,000 residents at a cost of over $38 million.

During a tour of project on July 16, Minister of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Robert Pickersgill informed that works, especially within the busy town areas of Santa Cruz was progressing satisfactorily, with the greater portion of the pipeline already laid.

“The works on this phase is divided in four segments, with Segment A undergoing pipe laying from Retirement Road to the intersection of Main Street to Coke Drive, with very little hindrances or inconveniences to pedestrians or vehicular traffic.  Segment B will include the laying of some 800 metres of pipeline along Coke Drive to Pagan Drive,” Minister Pickersgill pointed out.

He further informed that an additional 800 metres of pipeline will be laid from Pagan Drive to the Main Street intersection, then on to the Glenco Housing Development during Segment C.

“I am aware that as the work progresses, residents and customers, industries, commuters and motorists will experience some level of inconvenience, but I ask for your patience and understanding, as the contractor has assured me that all efforts would be made to keep any inconvenience to a minimum. He has also promised that the work will be completed on time and within budget,” the Water Minister told JIS News.
