US$100 Million to be Spent Under MIDP

Some US$100 million will be spent this year on road projects through the Major Infrastructure Development Programme (MIDP).

This was disclosed by Minister of State for Works in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Hon. Everald Warmington.

He was making his contribution to the 2016/17 Sectoral debate in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, July 6.

He informed that projects to be undertaken include improvement of Constant Spring Road to Manor Park, and the Mandela Highway.

MIDP commenced in 2013/2014.

The five-year programme, valued at US$354 million addresses the need to increase safety on the roads by improving a number of important thoroughfares through widening, rehabilitation and realignment where necessary.

Mr. Warmington informed that $58.17 million has been spent overall, with US$30.49 million for Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP)-related projects.

Mr. Warmington said projects valued at US$150 million will be executed in the 2017/18 financial year.
