April 1, 2009

The Full Story

Plans are in high gear for the annual St. Mary Agricultural Expo, to be held at the Annotto Bay Sport Complex, on Easter Monday, April 13.
The show will be held under the theme: ‘Agriculture and Tourism – a Partnership for Progress’.
Organised by the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) and the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), the event will feature a number of competitive activities, including pan chicken preparation, coconut husking, public speaking, the St. Mary Farm Queen contest and a Youth in Agriculture contest. There will also be an entertainment package, featuring several major artistes.
In an interview with JIS News, JAS Organiser, Lavon Murdock, said the show is expected to be as successful as those in the past.
She said interest in the show is at a high level among members of the farming community in the parish, adding that the JAS branches are gearing up to participate in the event.
Noting that the show is becoming more competitive each year as a result of the increased number of farmers participating, she said a significant number of new farmers would be involved in this year’s show, to add to the intensity of the competition.
Among the major sponsors are Jamaica Producers Limited, St. Mary Parish Council, Guardian Life Insurance Company, Hi-Pro Feeds and Nutramix.
