Some $195 million has been allocated to the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation to facilitate urgent restorative roadworks in St. Thomas.
Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid, speaking at a recent post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, said this is to repair damage to the road network and associated structures from flood rains in May last year.
Work has already started to repair the road with further improvement to be done pending the approval of the Supplementary Estimates now before Parliament.
Senator Reid, meanwhile, also announced that Cabinet has approved measures to operationalise the Special Economic Zone Regime. As part of this process, all Free Zone files are to be transferred from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries to the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation.
He said approval was also given for an audit of all existing Free Zone entities in order to validate their Free Zone status.
