The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is advising the public to exercise great caution when traversing the Spanish Town Road area in the vicinity of the Riverton City Dump, as a large fire is currently blazing. Prevailing windy conditions continue to pose a significant threat, delaying the process of bringing the fire under control. Individuals with respiratory conditions are being reminded to avoid smoke-filled areas.

Persons who generally use this area are again being urged to avoid the area where possible, or to exercise extreme caution to mitigate against undue exposure. The National and Parish response mechanisms remain on standby should the situation escalate.

Update
1. A water tanker and fire unit are currently at the scene
2. A second tanker and unit have been dispatched to the scene
3. A tractor is in place, and the National Solid Waste Management Authority is in the process of deploying trucks to transport soil, for cover material
4. 2 acres of solid waste are on fire

ï‚· Keep matches and lighters up high, out of the reach of children.
ï‚· Replace cords that are cracked, damaged, have broken plugs, or have loose connections.
ï‚· Keep candles at least one foot from anything that can burn. Blow out candles when you leave the room or go to sleep.
